Henry Sy or fondly called Tatang by his SM Family, Is indeed a father to many of the industry that he has pioneered, here in our country and abroad. Like the great patriarchs of the ancient past leaving their lasting legacy.
He is loved and adored by many, adored and endeared. An inspirational leader with vision and sense of mission. With passion and culture of excellence, nurtured and embraced by his family and people in his company.
I started with a dream to even sell just one pair of shoes to every Filipino. Became the Battle cry that started in Shoe Mart Carriedo in Quiapo and now Got it all, Supermarket and Department stores, Cinemas, Food courts, Appliance Center and affiliate ACE hardware and Watson.
First and the biggest malls in major regions in the country he did establish. Became Landmarks that served the community. Providing employment, retail, and space from supermalls, mega malls, rentals for businesses, restaurants and recreational and entertainment venues for special events like in SMX MOA.
In the banking Industry, BDO and China Bank are leading in their category making ways to serve the financing needs of their clientele and the entrepreneurs. With hundreds of branches nationwide. made banking accessible to everyone.
Half a century on their retail business and mall business they ventured into real estate developments on resort subdivision and condo developments. Which in just 2 years SMDC SM Development Corporation doubled its Assets and Portfolio.
In real estate location, location, location is the mantra. traffic and demand is the key. but for SM Group they create the demand and create the traffic setting the pace ruling the race.
Jesus said, " If you want to be the greatest be the servant of all". Its a common knowledge that Henry Sy and his family have deep faith with the Divine and practice Christian virtues and values and as attested by all the churches build within their SM mall complex.
And other basic utility provider like in the power, water, Logistics and forwarding, and online business the SM group has invested in this service industry.
And to Acknowledge their social responsibility by their generous charity provided by their SM Foundation. And the no.1 SLA SM Savings and Loans Association in the Philippines which caters for their employee's financing needs.
Seeing how many employees they have, how many families are benefited and the number of community and people they served. The taxes generated for government revenues to financed the infrastructure projects of the national and local government units. Henry Sy was blessed to bless the Filipino people.
A Legend and an inspiration to many. Your SM Group is your Legacy. You will be remembered not only as the richest Filipino of the Era but the Greatest Servant of the Filipino People, one of the Great Filipino that ever lived.

Ronald Llamas Ronald Llamas, current Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Ronald Llamas  is a prominent Filipino activist and the current political adviser of President  Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III . He is also the president of the  Akbayan Citizen's Action Party , which is a coalition partner of the  Liberal Party  (LP).
