" A KINGDOM IS LIKE A FAMILY, A FAMILY IS LIKE A LITTLE KINGDOM"

Growing up as a boy, I enjoy watching t.v. and movies as my favorite past time. One particular movie had impressed me deeply on my appreciation of my family the Llamas family was Aguila. A movie by the King FPJ~ Fernando Poe Jr. A power cast which also includes Charo Santos Conscio, Eddie Garcia, Christopher De Leon, Jay Ilagan, Elizabeth Oropeza and many more. It was an epic Story. A glimpse of the history of the Philippines encompassing the Spanish era, American regime, Japanese takeover during WWII and the liberation and rebirth of a nation. Martial law times in Luzon, scenic places in the Visayas And the conflicts in Mindanao was also highlighted. How political power was abused in the past. This also dissects the male psyche the male machismo and typical Filipino family. The story circles around the history of the Aguila family too. To keep this short one thing that caught my attention was the character of miss Charo Santos Conscio being Atty. Monica Salvacion Llamas the lawyer of FPJ (Aguila )who later became his wife. This is an epic story about the history of the Philippines and the Llamas family is part of it. This tickled my fancy and childish pride. And so begins my search on "Something Interesting And Fun About The LLamas Family of the Philippines".

Origins :

Spelling variations include Llamas, Lama, Lamas, Lama, Lamieras, Lamo and many more. First found in Asturias, An Important Christian Kingdom of Medieval Spain. Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were; immigrants to the New World bearing the Llamas name or one of its variation include Diego lama. who came to America in 1514. Isiderio lama, Who came to New Orleans in 1829, Rodrigo De Llamas who came to New Spain in 1528 with his sons Alonso and Gines, Antonio Llamas , who was one of the Catalonian " Spanish Bluecoats" recorded in California between 1769-1774, Francisco De Llanos, who came to chile in 1588, as well as Cebrian De Llano, who arrived in Peru in 1551.

And it is interesting to note that there is one Diego Osorio De Escobar Y Llamas (c. 1608, Coruna, Galicia, Spain—October 17, 1673, Puebla, New Spain, Mexico) He was Roman Catholic Bishop of Puebla (1656–73) and Viceroy of New Spain, Mexico. He was into gunpowder production (he owns a gunpowder factory) he supplies the Spanish Government the gunpowder their soldiers and naval ships supply. No wonder why Llamas family is closely linked to Soldiers, Men of arms and there is even a Llama gun made from Spain... ha ha ha son of a gun.

Just before, during, and after the Revolutionary War period in America in the late 1760’s, Spain was in intense rivalry with England, Russia, and other European powers for dominance in the Pacific. ( Spanish naval officers alternated between exploration and supplying California, New Spain, Mexico, and Manila.)

It was the starting point for numerous naval careers as a defense against possible English attack and supporting Manila was a priority.

Because of the dangers to the Philippines from the War with England, the transports San Carlos (El Toison) and San Antonio were sent to Manila to give notice of the war and to deliver $300,000 for war preparations.

They remained at Manila and became part of the Manila Naval operations. They were replaced at San Blas by the packet boats, the Aranzazu, and the San Carlos (El Filipino). The frigates were authorized 72 members each, and the packet boats, 41 members each. Each ship carried its own chaplain. Many of them stayed and settled in the Country.

This was the era of the Spanish Bluecoats.( Fresh wave of Catalonian Volunteers from Spain)

In The Philippines two Llamas brothers both Spanish Bluecoats came to our country. Maybe sons, brothers or relative of Antonio Llamas as was mentioned above. One went to Dagupan Pangasinan the other one went to Pagsanjan Laguna. Remember that we use to be under the Jurisdiction of the Spanish Governor of Mexico. Basically, the Llamas's of the Philippines comes from this two. I still have to research on the name of this two brothers. Prominent Llamas's from Manila, Pangasinan, Pagsanjan Laguna, Quezon Province, Bicol, Bataan, Panay, Iloilo, Negros, Cebu, Davao would pinpoint either of this two province as their roots of origin. But possible there where other earlier and later Llamas migration from this point in time either from Mexico or Spain.

The Llamas family in Mogpog, Marinduque have their roots trace from two Spanish Church builders of their town church. It is interesting to note that there was a famous Spanish artist in the name of Francisco Llamas famous painter of the Baroque era (Spain/Italy)active in 1700. He was a Spanish painter of the Baroque period. He was a pupil of Luca Giordano. Men of the Church, Men of Faith. We to have Antonio Llamas Garcia one of the greatest artists of our time.

As seen in the cover of this book the Llamas family Coat Of Arms: the color Of (Gold) in the Coat of Arms of the family Llamas symbolizes Generosity and Elevation of the Mind. It also reflects the hopes and ambition and aspiration of the family. The Llamas family has made a mark in the field of Politics, Military and Medical Service, Local Government and Foreign Affairs, Arts, Music, Entertainment and Fashion, Sports, Education, Business, and Religion. Distinguishing feature of the Llamas Family is abiding commitment to God, Country, and Family.

Llamas means " To Call ". Another derivative is Llamos meaning "Flame" or" Blaze"

Pioneering in many ways. A trailblazer embracing to the challenge of destinies calling them to play. In whatever field their passion will be felt. History has documented this and so I am honored to share it with all the Llamas's who will read this and everyone who will take interest in knowing this family.
