PART 19 THE LLAMAS FAMILY IN MILITARY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
PART 19 SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT THE LLAMAS FAMILY OF THE PHILIPPINES
BY: DEO ANTONIO D. LLAMAS
THE LLAMAS FAMILY IN MILITARY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
I was privilege to meet personally during the Dinagyang festival here in Iloilo a relative of mine Gen. Francis Q. Llamas and his brother was a colonel ,Col.Jose Q. Llamas also in the AFP and he mentioned that his father was Col.Ernesto Llamas .They even had a nephew Ernestine Q. Llamas she serve in the USAF during dessert storm in Iraq,Kosovo and also in Afghanistan. His brother Jay Q. Llamas serve as well in the USAF as a pilot which I have mentioned in the previous chapter. I guess it is a well established family tradition and a sense of pride and nationalistic fervor that runs in the family...
Remembering as well the revolutionary heroes of the family, Francisco Llamas of Cebu, Geronimo Llamas of Panay, Mariano Llamas of Laguna, and Antonio Llamas of Bataan where in his memory the Llamas Memorial Institute was build in serving and keeping the memories of WWII veterans alive and remembered. Not to forget Sotero Llamas of the militant New People Army (NPA)
I too did dream of becoming a soldier my self when I was young. I remember it vividly in my first grade when we where ask by our teacher to phanthomyme what we want to be when we grow up...my others classmates would pretend to be a doctor, a teacher , a lawyer and many more...but when it was my turn the whole class was so surprise when I immediately started to run and jump and pretend to be firing my gun and throwing grenades and everyone in the classroom had a healthy laugh including my teacher. They where so shock with my element of surprise ha ha ha. But I guess God has other plans for me.
My father and uncle even though they where lawyers there was a time in their career that they where serving in the intelligence. I found one I.D. of papa that he serve as Captain in Pasay City police force . He also serve us Comelec registrar where Mayor Pablo S. Cuneta was already the mayor of Pasay City( the father of Sharon Cuneta the mega star) that was before he was appointed as judge.
In the 80's I remember meeting the half brother of my father Capt.Ricardo Llamas (2nd family of lolo) where all his siblings where in the military service. Even their sister was a police woman . And it is nice to note that the roots of the Llamas family here came originally from two spanish soldiers who where brothers and settled here in the Philippines.
So allow me to post this articles of incorporation of (AGFO) where another Gen. Llamas made his mark and contribution. Gen. Fidel F. Llamas was one of the founding incorporator of(AGFO) Association of General and Flag Officers Inc.

As posted in chapter 12 of this book Gen. Fidel F. Llamas was a distinguished soldier having survive the Death March himself during WWII in Bataan. Allow me to re post as the foremost historian Dr. Gregorio Zaide...Pagsanjan, In History and Legend (1975 Edition )have written.
Many Pagsanjeños, as officers and soldiers of the USAFFE, bravely resisted the enemy at the bloody battlefields of Atimonan, Mauban, Bataan, and Corregidor. Among those who survived the war were Colonel Victor Gomez, Cipriano Ramiro, Salvador Ramiro, Atty. Jose Guevara, Dr, Ildefonso Gomez, Dr. David Cabreira, Dr. Augusto Hocson, Fidel Llamas, Luis Rivera, Elias Lavadia and Remo Lavadia.
Of the 1,400 towns in the Philippines, Pagsanjan is the only one to have produced six army generals and one navy commodore. First among those army generals was General Severino Taiño of revolutionary fame. The other five Pagsanjeño generals after Taiño are Lieutenant General Manuel Yan, who retired as Chief of Staff of the Philippine Armed Forces and has become Philippine ambassador to Thailand, and the four: Brigadier General Fidel Llamas, Brigadier General Elias Lavadia, Brigadier General Cipriano Ramiro, and Brigadier General Luis (Bobby) Rivera.
The lone navy commodore from Pagsanjan is Commodore Remo Lavadia, brother of Brigadier General Elias Lavadia. The rank of commodore in the navy is equivalent to brigadier general in the army. Thus it may be said, in the final analysis, that Pagsanjan has produced a total of seven generals, including Commodore Lavadia.
