SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT CONG. MANNY PACQUIAO AND DR. JOSE RIZAL

Yes we just celebrated Dr. Jose Rizal's Day but I noticed nobody commented on facebook about this great man our national hero. But what caught my attention while I was browsing in facebook was a video clip of Manny Pacquiao's interview after his fight with Morales. He fought a good fight and won. But he had a hard time expressing himself in that interview in English.

But something came into my mind. Two heroes of the Filipino people. World champion boxer Manny Pacquiao our National pride. And Dr. Jose Rizal our national hero. Both distinguished and respected. Allow me to express my admiration to this two heroes, their contribution and how they affect our country and people's way of thinking and how it is to be a Global Filipino.

Rizal was brought up from well to do family in Calamba, Laguna while Manny in a humble Family in Gen. Santos. Rizal was taught in the best school of that time, Manny learned early in life in the streets of Gen. San to earn a living as a bakers assistant in their hometown. Rizal was thought by his mother in reading and appreciating arts and the religious life and so was Manny's mother inculcating the love of God , Family and Country. Both have a loving mother and good spiritual foundation and a great sense of nationalism.

Rizal was a learner, a genius as such...a doctor, linguist, artist, novelist, poet, traveller,a romantic.Manny is as they say is street smart also a genius in the ring...boxer, actor, singer, gambler, a lover. They have good mentors who supported them in their chosen fields Rizal had his brothers and sisters. Manny his coaches and trainors, friends like Chavit Singson and Cong. Bing Leonardia.

Rizal was the one who awakens the Filipinos to the abuses and injustices suffered by the Filipinos through his books and articles written such as Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which leads the way to revolution . Liberation and freedom of the Filipinos from colonial power and became the first Republic in Asia which other Asian countries followed.

Manny in his own way awakens the sense of pride as a Filipino and in a way regain the respect of other nationality towards our country men working abroad and is fondly called" the National Pride of the Filipino People in the world. Rizal is called the Pride of the Malayan Race...Now even the Chinese are claiming him as their own. Now Manny is called " The Tiger of Asia "The Pound for Pound Champion of the World "

Rizal was linked to many women. Manny has many, a fare share of scandal of his own as we say it today. Funny thing the Filipino Male Machismo sexuality and psyche is best immortalized in our national university, The University of the Philippines Oblation statue. This two personified it ...ha ha ha. Remember we are all Naked before God .

The Bible Inspired Rizals books Noli Me Tangere " Touch Me Not" a text taken from the verses in the Bible. Manny Honors God by Praying and Kneeling before every fight in the ring as he Honors God...God Honors him as well. Both their names comes from the Bible.

Rizal was a Traveler. He reads books to lead. As they say reading is like travelling. The more you travel the more knowledgeable you become. Rizal was an epitome of a Global Filipino. Manny had the privilege to travel the world as well. With all his fights and training abroad. Broaden his perspective as a Filipino fighter.

Rizal was an inspiration, believes that the youth is the hope of the Mother Land. Andress Bonifacio was moved by his novels that he organized KKK and was willing to submit and follow Rizal's leadership. But Rizal was a peaceful man and wants change in a non violent way.

Manny on the other hand is a fighter an inspiration to millions of Filipino youths That from rugs to riches "One can make a difference" if you put your mind and heart in your craft. Young boxers, athletes, and many who are in the sporting fields and endevour looks up to him.

Before Parents would say "Anak hinto na sa paglalaro at mag aral na. ( Son stop playing and study now) Now parents would say " Anak ituloy muna ang paglaro balang araw baka maging katulad ka ni Manny Pacquiao"( Son continue playing maybe someday you will be like Manny Pacquiao ) The Philippines is a Country of Heroes. Fortune indeed favors the brave. Like our new heroes the OFW doing their part and if everyone is doing their share in nation building. What a country this would be. And what if we have a nationalistic fervor of Rizal and Manny prevailing in each and every Filipino.
