PART 2 SOMETHING INTERESTING AND FUN ABOUT THE LLAMAS FAMILY OF THE PHILIPPINES

AND SO WE BEGIN

Llamas is a surname which is found primarily in Spain.It should be noted that Llamas family members have migrated through history thereby carrying the name to many areas. The surname Llamas is of local origin deriving from the place where the ancestors of this lineage lived. There is a documentation related to many Llamas family members and can be traced thru Ines Paula Llamas as one of the first migrant to the new world and from there migrated to other parts of the world including the Philippines.

And we had greater link with Mexico during Spanish time because of Spanish Galleon Trade between Spain-Mexico-Philippines Remember not all Spanish who came In our country where born in Spain (Peninsulares) like the Creole( Native Born in Mexico but of Spanish ancestry) and some of which are of mixed Spanish-Indians in our case we call them Mestizos.And so as we would always say, Ladies first and so allow me to introduce to you the Llamas women of substance :


1.Virginia Llamas- The first Pagsanjeña to win national distinction for her beauty was Virginia Llamas, the Queen of Manila Carnival in 1922. Later she married her escort, Carlos P. Romulo, the world-famed journalist, diplomat, soldier and statesman. She was also accompanied by Eugenio Lopez

2.Amparito Llamas Lhuillier- Also a Beauty Queen Herself… the Queen of Cebu’s Alta Sociedad Amparito Llamas Lhuillier of M Lhuillier Group with branches all over the Philippines. Cousin of Antonio Llamas Garcia the famous Painter and UST professor in Fine arts.

3. Diane Monique Llamas Lhuillier -(born 1971, Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines) is a Filipina fashion designer based in the United States. She is of mixed French and Spanish-Cebuano descent.
Lhuillier was born to Michel J. Lhuillier, a Filipino businessman of partial French descent and Amparito Llamas, a Filipina society figure and former model of Spanish-Cebuana descent. The Lhuilliers own a chain of pawnshops currently in hundreds operating in the country and chain of restaurants.

4. Ines Paula Llamas- One of the first to migrate to the new world (for further research)

5.Paula Llamas Fernandez- married to Pedro Garcia , with no children , she financed the education of many relatives which paved way to the first professionals of Dagupan city.

6, Jeena Llamas Lopez- Extreme Sports Enthusiast Married to Ernie Lopez of ABS-CBN

7. Ernestine Q. Llamas- USAF was assigned in the battle ground during Iraq War-Dessert Storm., Kosovo and Afghanistan.

8. Miss Genoveva Llamas- a sister of Dr. Rosendo R. Llamas, was the first Pagsanjeña pensionada (1903) to the United States where she specialized in home economics.

9.Rina Albert Llamas- Graphic Designer known for her playful, signature style, her work has graced the pages of numerous publications, in, and plenty of labels, including Rustan’s, Itsie Bitsie, Just G and Tint. An art grad with a minor in business from Manhattanville College in New York Rina embodies the women who appear in her sketches. Well-traveled, well-versed in the vagaries of luxury fashion she is married to Polo GM Raffy Llamas.

10.Maria Villamil-Jovellanos Llamas- Devoted Pianist of St John Parish ,Teacher and wife of Mayor Jose Fernandez Llamas of Dagupan. Donated their family Piano to Bulacan Museum. It was the piano our National hero DR. Jose Rizal and Leonora Rivera used to play on (She was our Grand mother).

10.Rosario Llamas- one of the first beauty queen in the Llamas Family. Won the crown in 1918 as Cebu's Carnival Queen.

11.Monica Llamas- Independent Artist,actress,Model,Endorser.Commercial event Organizer and Host. Marketing Manager for Solartv, Ballet Philippines and owns a travel agency in Manila.

11. Anna Lissa Rivera Llamas-Working for SM Food Division- Franchising Jollibee is working with the best of both world.Having been in the food industry and as group manager for quite sometime she is thankful for the support of her boss and SM family and Jollibee's creative group. Her effort has been rewarded by the many gold FCS awards. THE SM group have garnered national recognition consistently. In this very competitive industry Tata (my wife)will be in this ball game setting the pace ruling the race as Jollibee's mantra for winning.

12.Bettina Llamas-Araneta Aboitiz- GMA's Presidential Social Secretary Bettina Araneta Aboitiz is the wife of tycoon Sabin Aboitiz. She is the daughter of Maritina Llamas Araneta

13.Dr. Leonor Llamas Rankel- a Doctor of Medicine base in Austria. Her daughter Claudia Llamas Rankel is an artist base in Hollywood.

14. Liana Romulo- Granddaughter of Virginia Llamas Romulo. Blogger, writer of children's book and restaurant owner.

1.The Llamas of the FERCOLLA Clan of Dagupan City -

FERCOLLA CLAN is the Genealogy Of The Families of Fernandez–Coquia–Llamas of Dagupan , Pangasinan. Indeed any history of Dagupan City with out an account of the life of this three big families will hardly be complete. Pioneered the Milk fish fishpond industry in Dagupan where it is recognized in the country and abroad. From the start, the history of our family have interlinked with the history of Dagupan City.

1. Antonio Llamas Fernandez - Municipal President of Dagupan, Municipal Judge. A Street has been name in his honor.

2. Jose Fernandez Llamas - Mayor of Dagupan City. Lawyer, Journalist, Writer, Linguist, University of Sto. Tomas Professor serve as Judge at Urdaneta and Sta. Barbara Pangasinan .(He was my Grand Father).He wrote a dictionary English-Spanish-Tagalog-Pangalatok

3. Liberato Llamas Reyna –First Elective Mayor of the City of Dagupan. Founder of Luzon College.

4. Judge Alfonso J. Llamas- RTC Judge

5. Judge Leonides J. Llamas Sr.(my father)serve with the intelligence, Police Captain, Comelec election registrar in Pasay City during early time of Mayor Cuneta, serve as Mun.Judge in Mindoro, and after that he availed of the early retirement. Then applied again with Comelec as Registrar in Basilan, Mindanao in the 80's and last serve as court administrator in Kalibo,Aklan for my mother was assigned in Kalibo as well at Bureau of Lands DENR as LMD- Land Management Division Head. He was quite a traveler and adventurer seeing in his old picture he was active in the peace process in Mindanao some point in his career. Speaker of the House Joe Devenecia was his classmate in Dagupan and childhood friend. Finished law at F.E.U. with Sen. Jovito Salonga as their Dean and Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile and Sen. Maceda as their Professors.

8. Hernando Llamas- Dagupans best city treasurer ever. Prior to being Dagupan's City Treasurer he was the Provincial Treasurer of Bataan Island after serving as City Treasurer of San Carlos City. His Grandfather was Toribio Jovellanos was The first Municipal President of Dagupan. Likewise his father was also a former Mayor of Dagupan City, Mayor Jose Fernandez Llamas.

5.Vice Governor Rodolfo Llamas- former Vice Governor of  Tarlac During Pres. Cory Aquino's Administration.

6.Dr. Rosendo Llamas , Philanthropist donated a building for College of Medicine at University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. The Llamas Scienec Hall housed the Physics Dept.(National Institute for Physics-NIP) Currently the Chemistry department. He also donated money for Rosendo Llamas scholarship Fund for U.P. College of Medicine for bright and deserving students. He was also the consultant for the Chinese General Hospital

1. Mayor Fernando Llamas – Mayor of Mauban ,Quezon,of which the Llamas Family is in the forefront of Deep Sea fishing industry in the Region

1. Sotero Llamas – A Revolutionary Activist who join in the NPA movement 1n 1971 resurface join the govt. as the consultant for Peace Process and join mainstream politics. Founding member of Bayan Muna party list. Run for Governor in 2004 And was gun down in 2006.

2. There is also a Llamas -Roco clan in Bicol.

3.PFC Edel Llamas- Died as a hero saving 29 Army soldiers from NPA attack. A member 83RD Infantry Battalion in Balatohan, San Miguel Catanduanes. (see Part 10)

4. Col. Teodoro A. Llamas-Awarded Most Outstanding Soldier of the Philippines, 2014.

5.THE LLAMAS OF PANAY AND GUIMARAS

1. Geronimo Llamas –A Valiant and brave Hero of WWII single handedly killed a dozen or More Japanese Troops during one of their encounter. A chapter of the book of War of Panay by Jose Doromal was dedicated to him.He was caught and later killed by the Japanese.

2.In Guimaras Island there was a chief of Police whose father was also a world war II Veteran as well. One of the son of the police chief I know of is Alvin Llamas holds the title as the fastest centralian. An alumnus of (CPU)Central Philippines University. Brought home the Gold in two events in a National sporting meet in Manila in the 80's. He won gold medals for the 100 and 200 meter dash.

3.In Capiz, there is Councilor Rogelio Llamas of Dumarao and Brgy.Chairman of Brgy. Baybay of Roxas City and in Cuartero there are Llamas family whose roots are from Laguna.

6. THE LLAMAS OF NEGROS

1. Augusto Llamas- Not the typical Haciendero his hacienda is in Isabela and Binalbagan. A Gentle Soul with a deadly Art. A kung -fu master at its best. He is also a Realtor and is a distributor of water pumps for industrial and farm use.( There is another Llamas St. here in Negros. But I still have to look where it is located and what's the story of the one honored to have a road name after him. There are Hacienda Llamas here as well.)

2. Engr. Antonio Llamas - One of the Chief Engr. of Victoria Milling Corporation. And Put up NEDCOR- Negros Development Corporation together with wife Eva Llamas used to lease and manage Mambukal Resort from the province of Negros Occidental. He is also a contractor.

3. Arcenio Llamas-President of CBCP -Convention of Baptist Churches of the Philippines which CPU-Central Philippines University is affiliated. He's a Pastor of a baptist church in Murcia, Negros Occidental

4. Severino C. Llamas- Recently retired Cenro-DENR.in reg.VI.Was assigned in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo and Kabankalan, Negros He is also an Haciendero. He ran for Mayor in Cauayan, Negros in his hometown last 2007 election. Severino Llamas serves also as Chairman and Manager of Cauayan Sugarcane Planters Association, Inc.,

5.Frank Jude Llamas Fuentevilla -President, Philippine Diversified Development Corporation Inc. PDDC Philippine Diversified Developers Corporation was established in 1974 as a real estate company involved in the construction, development and marketing of subdivisions,Fishponds and sugar land in Negros and Panay. They also own the Rural Bank of Marayo-awarded as the best performing Rural bank in the Visayas Region with branches in Iloilo and Negros Province. His father Franklin G. Fuentevilla was formerly the (P.A.) Presidential Adviser for the Visayas married to Aurora Llamas.

7. THE LLAMAS OF CEBU AND MINDANAO

1. Francisco Llamas- Revolutionary Hero of Cebu . Help in liberating Cebu. A Street is name after him at Lobangon Cebu. Many of his descendants migrated in Mindanao particularly in Davao, Maranding,Iligan, Ozamis, Tawi-tawi but some are still in Cebu. Most of them are musicians,writer in the person of Confessor Llamas who was a radio drama writer whose work Confavella was broadcast in Cebu, Bohol and Mindanao AM station,he was into politics as well.The Llamas Radio and famous Llamas Tailoring belongs to this clan. One was a was a BIR examiner,Teachers like Carlos Llamas III. They are into funeral services and mining as in the case of Marlene Tan and Mandix Llamas. Many have worked abroad like Capt. Ronald Llamas, Inday Serra Llamas and Judith Monera Llamas Toovey.

2. The Llamas-Del Rosario clan- They where into politics and airplane rental business in Lahug Cebu.

3. THE Llamas-Lhuillier Family-owns the M.Lhuillier Chain of jewelry and pawnshop as well as money transfer services. Also owns chains of restaurants operating in Cebu, Manila and Iloilo. They also produce dried mangoes which they also distributes and sell. One of the best pasalubong products of Cebu.

8. THE LLAMAS OF DAVAO

1. Antonio Llamas serve as city Administrator of Davao City. He is well like by the people.One of the stock holder of a golf course in Davao. Also a lawyer by profession.

9. THE LLAMAS OF BATAAN

1. Cong. Antonio G. Llamas WWII Hero - a School was name after him and an Institute. Llamas High School in Mareveles, Bataan and Llamas Memorial Institute for War Veterans.They to offers scholarship grant. The school was establish by her sister Elisa Llamas. The Llamas School was the first school in Mariveles,Bataan.

10.LLAMAS OF MARINDUQUE

Theire is a Llamas Clan in Marinduque who are the descendants of the Spanish builders of their town church. They have a regular family reunion as well. Held during the month of April. Ramon M. Llamas is the youngest among the nine children of Gerardo Llamas, who was one of the grandson of Luis Llamas, who migrated to Marinduque from Pagsanjan Laguna and was one of the builder of the oldest church in town.

11.THE LLAMAS OF POZORRUBIO (see Part 29)

1.Guillermo Llamas Sr. (1st Licensed Embalmer in Pozorrubio; 5th in the Phils./ Owner of the first funeral parlor in Pozorrubio) married to Maria Lopez

2.Dr. Lorenzo L. Llamas, Sr. (Former National Treasurer Of The Philippine Veterinary Medical Association) married to Salvacion S. Calpotura

3.Lorenzo C. Llamas, Jr. (incoming member of the Pozorrubio Historical Committee) A young historian and a novelist author of two novels ' The Republic and The the 'Afternoon of fools. A great writer a student at UL (University of Luzon) taking up B.S.Pharmacy

12.THE LLAMAS OF PARANAQUE

Having finished their Llamas Family tree it has trace 7 generations of Llamas'es in their family tree. Nearly more than 390 of them in their family tree (see part 30)Their matriarch is related to DON HERMOGENES R. RODRIGUEZ being the Gobernadorcillo de Maynila his cousin QUEEN ISABELA II gave a vast track of land more or less 27,000 Hectare in the country given to him as gift by the Queen Isabela II of Spain by virtue of a Royal Decree. Raymond Joseph Llamas Salvador Contribution have worked on their family tree and his cousin Ian Llamas was instrumental in creating the Llamas Clan FB Group which he assigned me to be one of the admin of this group which to me is history unfolding.

13. THE LLAMAS OF MANILA

1.Antonio Llamas Garcia -Famous Painter And professor of (U.S.T)University of Santo Tomas in Fine Arts. Belonging to one of the richest family in the Philippines Garcia Clan and Llamas Clan of Intramuros of which where mostly killed during Japanese occupation in WWII.It was said next to Malacanang Palace their House was one the Grandest at that time in the pre-war Philippines. He Painted the Famous portrait of President Magsaysay In Malacanang and very influential in the Circle of the Rich and Famous was preferred to do their portraits. Antonio Llamas Garcia was one of the greatest Filipino artists of 20th century. He was born and raised in Metro Manila and studied in Spain and Italy.

The Commission for Overseas Filipinos honored the memory of the artist with the Pamana ng Pilipino Award given posthumously in 2000 an award that he shares with art luminaries like Anita Magsaysay-Ho, David Medalla, Pacita Abad, Jessica Hagedorn, among others. (see Part 17)

2.Jose Manuel Enrique Llamas 1st cousin of Raffy Llamas(married to Rina Albert), whose father is Ramon Roco Llamas. Jose Llamas father is Enrique Llamas former Futbol player (goalie and striker) of DLSU 1959-1963. He is the 1st cousin of Eddie Llamas Futbol player in San Beda and 2nd cousin of Amparito Llamas.

3.JOSE ANGEL LLAMAS- (Born October 13, 1966) is a Mexican actor best known for his roles of Rudolfo in Amor descarado.
4.FRANCISCO LLAMAS- Famous painter of the Baroque era (Spain/Italy)active 1700.He was a pupil of Luca Giordano. On the ceilings of the hjavascript:void(0)alls which separate the two cloisters of the College of Monks in El Escorial, he represented The Trinity, The Creation, Chief Doctors of the Church, Chief Philosophers, The Sciences, The Virtues, The Elements, and several other subjects. He also decorated the Cathedral of Ávila, and the Hermitage of our Lady of Prado, near Talayera de la Reyna.
5.FERNANDO LAMAS- Fernando Álvaro Lamas (January 9, 1915 – October 8, 1982) was an Argentine-born actor and director, and the father of actor Lorenzo Lamas.

He was into gun powder production he supplies the Spanish Government the gunpowder their soldiers and naval ships supply.
19. DANI LLAMAS-(Jerez, Spain, 1980) was known so far for his duties as lead singer and guitarist of GAS Drummers, one of the most significant indie/punk rock bands in the last decade in Spain. In more than 11 years, GAS Drummers have released five albums and have toured all the way thru Spain, Europe and even Canada.

23.CAPT. JOSE LLAMAS- Vietnam War Hero.On May 13, 1968 the 69th Brigade, Kansas Army National Guard, was activated for federal service in Vietnam. At the time, Llamas was the commander of Company C, 1st Battalion, 137th Infantry. Although he was 42 years old, had served in Europe in World War II. He died by a direct mortar heat while rallying his man to repulse the attack and was awarded three Bronze Star Medals and the Purple Heart for his sacrifice posthumously.
